November 4, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
The Pennsylvania Department of Aging plays a vital role in advocating for older adults across the state to have access to quality services that allow them to age and live well. Report of elder abuse has increased significantly in PA over the past 5 years, and it is vital for healthcare professionals to not only identify elder abuse, but to also implement preventative tools to lower the risk of abuse in older adults. This presentation will cover the mission of PA Department of Aging, risk factors related to elder abuse, education in the Older Adults Protective Services Act, PA specific statistics on elder abuse, review of the PA Nurse Practice Act and RN role related to identifying and reporting abuse, and implementation of the 4 M’s of Age-Friendly Care to mitigate elder mistreatment.
