Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
If you are holding an educational activity and wish to offer Nursing contact hours and/or Pharmacotherapeutic contact hours, please read the following information and submit the documents below to nursece@psu.edu.
NOTE: Please submit Application Packets 45 days prior to educational activities.
Overview
- Review the Informational Packet and download the Clinical/Non-Clinical Planning Form (listed below). If you are unsure where to begin, these documents will direct you toward additional resources for outlining an educational activity. First-time activity planning committees should contact NurseCE@psu.edu to schedule a 30-minute Application Packet onboarding meeting.
- Submit your Application Packet at least 45 days prior to the activity. This allows time for review and feedback. If there are questions or revisions, you will be contacted by the Office for Outreach and Professional Development for additional information, before activity approval.
- Once approved, you will receive an email with the contact hour Approval Letter for your Nursing Continuing Professional Development activity along with any associated fees. Activities are typically approved for two years.
- Review the Informational Packet’s “Post-Event Materials: Checklist” to become familiar with data that will need to be collected before, during, and after your activity.
- Run your activity!
- Within 14 days of completing your activity, submit all Post-Event Materials for review. If there are questions or revisions, you will be contacted by the Office for Outreach and Professional Development for additional information, before certificate generation and distribution. If your activity has associated fees, an invoice will be emailed showing a breakdown of fee totals. Certificates will be generated and distributed after full invoice payment is confirmed.

Activity Costs
A $250.00 administrative fee will be charged annually for all organizations/groups submitting one or more activities for approval. This fee covers administrative time to assist, review, and approve initial activity plans, assist and review post-event materials, and generate and distribute certificates. Administrative fees also cover Approved Provider Unit state compliance (PSNA) procedures, such as annual submission of all activity data through a digital portal.
Contact hour rates are typically charged at $20.00 per 1.0 contact hour per Registered Nurse (RN), unless otherwise discussed and agreed upon. Contact hour fees are ONLY charged to learners who require contact hour certificates (learners who are RNs and meet all activity criteria as detailed in the approved Planning Form). All other non-RN learners, or RNs not requesting contact hours/meeting contact hour requirements, will NOT receive a contact hour certificate and, therefore, will NOT be charged the contact hour fees.
Other offices, departments, or colleges within Penn State are encouraged to email NurseCE@psu.edu about associated fees before submitting an Application Packet. Internal Penn State groups looking for funding through grants are highly encouraged to include the administrative fee and contact hour rates in budget proposals, basing the contact hour fee total on an estimated number of RNs who will request contact hours for your activity.
Repeat Programming
Most activities are approved for two years (see your Approval Letter). To run repeat-approved activities, please email NurseCE@psu.edu the following information:
