What Factors Influence Acceptance of Palliative Care Integration in Patients Living with Heart Failure?

Dr. Evelyn Nieves is a Diploma grad from Temple University East Campus (formerly Northeastern Hospital School of Nursing) with 21 years of nursing experience from Pittsburg to Philadelphia. The last few years as a staff nurse I worked and certified as a critical care nurse. I have been teaching since 2014. I earned my Master’s of Science in Nursing with a concentration in education from Walden University and a Doctor of Philosophy with a concentration in Caring Science from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I have been teaching at Penn State for 7.5 years.

Heart Failure (HF) is an incurable, life limiting disease that does not discriminate against age, race, gender, nor sexual identity. As each year passes, the rates of HF continue to surpass the rate of cancer, yet there is no systematized effort to introduce palliative care (PC) early in the disease trajectory, PC is a supportive, interdisciplinary approach that provides symptom relief and has the potential to enhance quality of life (QOL) not only in those living with cancer but also those with chronic life-limiting illnesses. A comprehensive, holistic approach to the management of individuals living with HF has been shown to improve QOL and address the detrimental symptoms of anxiety and depression in those living with HF.

 All seminars are hosted virtually, from 12 to 1 p.m. 1.0 Contact Hour is available for Registered Nurses meeting the necessary requirements.
